Chiefs Sign Elijah McGuire To Their Practice Squad
3 years agoThe Kansas City Chiefs signed running back Elijah McGuire to their practice squad on Tuesday, according to a source. McGuire will give the Chiefs some depth at the position with Clyde Edwards-Helaire (knee) going on Injured Reserve after suffering an MCL sprain in his left knee in the Week 5 loss to the Buffalo Bills. McGuire was a sixth-round pick by the New York Jets in 2017 and spent his first two years with them before joining the Chiefs in 2019 and 2020. The 27-year-old hasn't seen the field in his time with the Chiefs, but he did carry the ball 180 times for 591 yards and four touchdowns in 24 games (five starts) with the Jets. He has familiarity with the system, but it'll be Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon with increased opportunities in KC's backfield with Edwards-Helaire sidelined.
