Casey Mize Struggles In His Final Start Of 2021
3 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize made his final outing of the year on Wednesday. Facing the Minnesota Twins, he pitched four innings and allowed five hits, no walks and three earned runs while striking out four. All three of the runs came in the first inning. He settled in after the rough start. In his first full year in the majors, the 24-year-old right-hander went 7-9 with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. His 19.3% strikeout rate ranked in the 21st percentile of the league. He also gave up a good amount of hard contact with a .456 xSLG that ranked in the 17th percentile of the league. He'll be worth targeting with a late round pick in fantasy drafts next year, but he has some work to do before becoming a reliable fantasy pitcher.
