3 years agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton (back) is unlikely to return before the end of the season, according to Angels manager Joe Maddon. The 34-year-old veteran has been out since September 1 due to a right lumbar strain. Maddon told reporters that Upton's back has been bothering him for most of the second half of the year. Maddon has certainly been the bearer of bad news lately. Last week, he told reporters that he didn't expect to see Mike Trout (calf) or Jo Adell (abdomen) back this year. Upton had an uneven 2021 season. Over 89 games, he slashed .211/.296/.409 with 17 home runs, 41 RBI and 47 runs.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
