Javonte Williams A Healthy Scratch Against Rams
3 years agoDenver Broncos rookie running back Javonte Williams was essentially a healthy scratch in the preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday. The Broncos wanted to feature Melvin Gordon III, who had missed the first two preseason games with a minor groin injury that he'd been dealing with during training camp. Williams had 12 carries for 49 yards and one catch for five yards in his first two preseason games in the NFL this year. Gordon is expected to be the de facto starter to begin the regular season, but the Broncos have high hopes for the second-rounder, and he's expected to work in tandem with Gordon all year long. Williams, not Gordon, is the favorite to lead Denver in touches in this backfield by season's end.
