3 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers plan to play their starters for most of the first half on Sunday in their preseason finale, and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will start under center. Rookie first-rounder Trey Lance will be "mixed in" with the first group a bit, too, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. The 49ers have yet to officially name Garoppolo as their Week 1 starter, but that's the expectation. Shanahan has also hinted that he plans to use Lance in sub-packages early on, similar to how the Saints mixed in Taysom Hill alongside Drew Brees in recent seasons. Garoppolo's lengthy injury history and reluctance to take deep shots makes him an unappealing QB2 on a run-first team. While still very raw, Lance's dual-threat abilities give him more upside in redraft leagues for fantasy managers.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
