Paul Goldschmidt Slugging Just .355 In August
3 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals first baseman Paul Goldschmidt had his best month of the year so far in July. He slashed .323/.400/.559 with six home runs, 13 RBI and 15 runs over 23 games last month. However, he's off to a slow start in August. Over his first eight games this month, he's slashed .258/.265/.355 while managing just one extra-base hit, a home run. His season-long .442 slugging percentage is a career-low mark, down from .466 last year and well below his career .516 slugging percentage. However, his .531 xSLG ranks in the top 7% of the league and his current 52.9% hard-hit rate is a career-best mark. Clearly he's been a bit unlucky so far. It's likely that the breakout we were seeing in July will continue to develop over the final months of the year.
