D'Andre Swift's Role Could Double In 2021
3 years agoDetroit Lions running back D'Andre Swift dealt with a hip injury toward the end of training camp last year and also battled migraine issues later in his rookie season. But he was able to show plenty of versatility and athleticism, rushing the ball 114 times for 521 yards and eight touchdowns while also catching 46 passes for 357 yards and two more scores in 13 games. The 22-year-old struggled for consistent touches in the first quarter of the season, running the ball only 12 times in the first four games. But Swift broke out against the Jags in Week 5 and had double-digit carries in five of his final eight games. Running backs coach Duce Staley made it sound as if Swift's role could double in 2021, saying you want your "star" and "three-down back" to have 25 touches each game. With Anthony Lynn now the offensive coordinator, Detroit will make it a point to run the ball, but they could also be trailing by multiple scores often. Swift has the talent and athleticism to be a three-down back, but the presence of Jamaal Williams and rookie Jermar Jefferson may ultimately hurt his overall ceiling. He's currently being taken as the No. 16 RB in fantasy drafts.
