Melvin Gordon III To Be Part Of Tandem Attack?
3 years agoThe Denver Broncos likely plan this year will be to use running backs Melvin Gordon III and rookie Javonte Williams as a tandem that can equal parts control the clock and produce big plays, increasing their per-carry average. One possible scenario is Gordon starting the season opener against the New York Giants, and maybe beyond, but Williams getting more and more work as he adapts to the speed of the NFL game. Injuries and performance will play a big part, so nothing is guaranteed, but Gordon's fantasy stock took a big hit when the Broncos selected Williams in the second round. Gordon was 10th in the league in rushing yards (986) and tied for 11th in touchdowns (nine), but he only had two real memorable big gains. The 28-year-old will be part of the mix, but he's unlikely to see the 16.5 touches per game he did in 2020, and there's also the possibility of a suspension for his DUI incident last year. Gordon is going, on average, two spots lower in the RB rankings than Williams as more of an RB3/flex.
