3 years agoWashington Nationals catcher Alex Avila (calves) is scheduled to catch a bullpen session on Tuesday. Avila has been on the injured list with strains in both of his calves, but this is a promising step in the right direction. With both Avila and Yan Gomes currently on the shelf, the Nationals have been mostly using Tres Barrera behind the dish, with veteran Rene Rivera serving as the backup after recently being signed. It's a situation to avoid for fantasy managers. Avila has just 11 hits in 66 at-bats (.167) this year with no home runs and six RBI. The 34-year-old will likely return to a reserve role when he's fully healthy. Avila doesn't even have much fantasy appeal in deep two-catcher leagues.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
