Mets Eyeing Jose Berrios?
3 years agoAccording to a source, the New York Mets are looking to make a "big splash" at this year's trade deadline and have shifted their focus to Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios and Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. With starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (forearm) and shortstop Francisco Lindor (oblique) out indefinitely, the front office is willing to do whatever it takes in order to solidify a postseason berth, including exceeding the luxury tax. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner knows Berrios from their time together in 2019 and has recommended Berrios to the front office. The Mets are also looking at Pirates left-hander Tyler Anderson, but Berrios is the more talented arm and has a nice 3.48 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 114 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings over 18 starts this year. Berrios' fantasy value wouldn't change all that much with a move to the National League East, but he'd certainly be moving to a tougher division.
