Braves Acquire Joc Pederson From The Cubs
3 years agoThe Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Joc Pederson from the Chicago Cubs on Thursday in exchange for first baseman Bryce Ball. The Cubs were always believed to be sellers, so this doesn't come as a huge surprise, but not many expected Atlanta to be buyers, especially after Ronald Acuna Jr. (knee) suffered a season-ending torn ACL recently. Pederson has big shoes to fill in Atlanta, but he'll bring some pop to the Braves outfield in the absence of Acuna after he hit .230/.300/.418 with 11 home runs, 35 runs scored, 39 RBI and two stolen bases in 256 at-bats for the Cubs. Pederson has too much swing and miss in his game to be an asset in batting average or on-base percentage, but he moves to a good park for lefty hitters and into another strong lineup. Ball, 23, was hitting just .207/.354/.396 with six home runs and 30 RBI in 53 games for High-A Rome before the trade.
