Charlie Morton Has Boosted His Trade Stock
3 years agoAtlanta Braves veteran right-hander Charlie Morton is a trade candidate this summer that has really boosted his stock in the last few weeks. Especially after Ronald Acuna Jr.'s (knee) torn ACL, the Braves could be sellers at this year's trade deadline. Morton has a 3.64 ERA in 99 innings over 18 starts this year, but he's also held opponents scoreless over seven-plus innings in three of his last five starts for a 1.91 ERA in 33 innings over that span. He is owed around $7 million for the rest of the 2021 season before becoming a free agent again in the offseason. MLB.com's Mark Feinsand mentions the Los Angeles Angels and New York Yankees as potential fits if he were to be dealt. The two-time All-Star has been valuable in all formats, but a move to the American League East would arguably lower his value in the second half, even though he has experience in that division with the Tampa Bay Rays.
