Ben Roethlisberger 2021 Outlook: Big Ben Needs Big Arm To Return
3 years agoBen Roethlisberger will once again be the signal-caller for the Pittsburgh offense. In 2020, Roethlisberger threw for 3,784 yards and 33 touchdowns (one off his career-high) on 608 pass attempts. This was good for a QB14 finish in a season where he had the third-highest pass attempts in the NFL. Roethlisberger will be throwing to the WR trio of Diontae Johnson, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Chase Claypool for the second year in a row. With the addition of Najee Harris in the 2021 draft, the Steelers will look to establish a rushing attack that was non-existent in 2020. Under new offensive coordinator Matt Canada, the Steelers will look for a more balanced attack on offense to keep defenses honest. For Roethlisberger to build on his 2020 season, his efficiency will need to improve significantly. His 6.2 yards per attempt ranked 32nd in the NFL last year. Roethlisberger will need to greatly improve on this number to have fantasy appeal in 2021, as his pass attempts will come back down to earth in the new offensive scheme. In his current situation, the 39-year-old is best valued as a QB2 with limited upside in 2021.
