CJ Abrams Not Expected To Need Surgery
3 years agoSan Diego Padres shortstop CJ Abrams (leg, knee), who is out for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured left tibia and a sprained left MCL, is not expected to need surgery. It's really good news for the No. 9 overall prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline. Abrams was hitting really well down on the farm for Double-A San Antonio before the injury, too, slashing .296/.363/.420 with two home runs, 26 runs scored, 23 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts over 183 plate appearances. The 20-year-old is a can't-miss prospect with game-changing speed. While he's blocked at the 6 by Fernando Tatis Jr. for a long time in San Diego, his athleticism makes him a candidate to move to second base or the outfield in the long term. Abrams needs to be stashed in all dynasty/keeper leagues despite this setback in his development.
