Salvador Perez Commits To Home Run Derby
3 years agoKansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez will try to become the first catcher to win the Home Run Derby this year. Perez will also be the American League's starting catcher for the midsummer classic in Colorado this year for the sixth time in his career. His seven All-Star selections are second-most in Royals history to George Brett's 13. The 31-year-old will be the third Royals player to take part in the Derby, joining Bo Jackson (1989) and Danny Tartabull (1991). Perez will be the eighth catcher in the event. He leads Kansas City with 19 home runs this year while slashing .278/.306/.508, making him one of the most attractive fantasy catchers in the game. Perez's 171 career home runs rank him fifth in team history.
