Jerad Eickhoff DFA'd, Thomas Szapucki Called Up
3 years agoThe New York Mets designated right-hander Jerad Eickhoff for assignment on Tuesday and called up pitching prospect Thomas Szapucki in a corresponding move. Szapucki, the team's 10th-ranked prospect, will be making his major league debut when he gets into a game. Eickhoff's time in the big leagues came to an end when he allowed five earned runs on eight hits (four home runs) in six innings in his start on Monday against the Washington Nationals. Szapucki, a 25-year-old left-hander, had a 4.41 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 38/22 K/BB in 34 2/3 innings in eight outings (seven starts) for Triple-A Syracuse. The southpaw has a nice fastball-slider combination, but he needs to prove more before fantasy managers can rely on him if he makes any starts for the Mets.
