Chris Sale Tosses Two Simulated Innings
4 years agoBoston Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale (elbow) threw 45 pitches over two simulated innings on Tuesday. There were hitters in the box, but they were not swinging at Sale's offerings, which includes all of his pitches. It was an encouraging day, with the southpaw's fastball getting up to 92 mph on the radar gun. Sale is slowing progressing from Tommy John surgery, and if he doesn't suffer any setbacks along the way, he could be back for the BoSox at some point in August. A rehab assignment is coming shortly, and that should give us an even better idea of when he might be ready to return to the major leagues. While it looks like Sale will pitch in 2021, there's a good chance that the lefty may not be as sharp, mainly in the control department. The six-time All-Star is worth a pickup if he's available and if you have the room, but temper expectations down the stretch.
