Texans Sign Rex Burkhead
4 years agoThe Houston Texans signed former New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday. Burkhead has been more of a committee back in his career with the Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals, and he's likely to compete for the third-down role in Houston while also contributing on special teams. Texans general manager Nick Caserio is familiar with Burkhead from their time together in New England. Houston has a very crowded backfield with Mark Ingram II, Phillip Lindsay, David Johnson, Buddy Howell, Scottie Phillips and Dontrell Hilliard. The 30-year-old Burkhead had 67 carries for 274 yards (4.1 yards per tote) and three rushing touchdowns while adding 25 receptions for 192 yards and another three scores in 10 games (no starts) for the Pats in 2020. Given how many bodies are in Houston's backfield, it might take an injury or two for Burkhead to be relevant in standard-sized fantasy leagues this season.
