Chris Godwin Saw Less Attention From Defenders Last Year
4 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin saw press coverage on just 10.5 percent of routes run in 2020, the fifth-lowest rate among receivers running at least 300 routes in the NFL. That was thanks to the presence of Mike Evans, Rob Gronkowski and eventually Antonio Brown last year. Once known for being primarily a deep threat down the middle of the field -- he caught 14 passes for 362 yards and a touchdown on 24 post targets since 2019 -- Godwin had a catch rate of 10.4 percent above expectation while also catching 10-plus passes on crossing routes, screens and hitches in 2020. He helped quarterback Tom Brady post a 131.1 passer rating when targeting him. With all of Tampa's offensive weapons back again to defend their title in 2021, Godwin will remain a high-end fantasy commodity at his position.
