Jordan Montgomery Fans Career-High 11 Batters In No-Decision
4 years agoNew York Yankees starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery was masterful in Friday's 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox. Montgomery didn't factor into the decision, though he was excellent over seven shutout innings, striking out a career-high 11 hitters while allowing just four baserunners. The southpaw generated 17 whiffs, eight of them on his curveball, which was on point against the White Sox, as it was also his putaway pitch on six of his punchouts. While it was disappointing to end up without a win, Montgomery still authored a much-needed rebound effort after a down performance in his last outing against Baltimore. He's pitched at least six innings with one run allowed or less and at least nine strikeouts in two of his last three starts, with a May 27 matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays coming up. Montgomery owns a 3.21 ERA and 24:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 28 career innings versus Toronto.
