Zack Wheeler Maintaining A Strong 1.86 ERA In May
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies starting pitcher Zack Wheeler has had a strong start to the 2021 season and has been particularly dominant in May. Through four starts this month, he's posted a 1.86 ERA with quality starts in three of four outings. In his most recent start on Tuesday against the Miami Marlins, he matched a season-high with 10 strikeouts. Wheeler has seen a slight increase in the velocity of his primary pitch, his four-seam fastball. It's averaging 97.2 mph, up from 96.9 mph last year. His secondary pitch, his slider, is up even more from last year. It has an average velocity of 91.2 mph this year, following 89.8 mph last year. Wheeler looks to be on the verge of delivering an elite fantasy season. His next start will be on Sunday against the Boston Red Sox.
