4 years agoNew York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso has only gone yard once so far over 15 games this month. He's slashing .231/.365/.385 over 63 plate appearances in May. He does have five doubles and 11 runs. Alonso hit five home runs in April and his peripherals on the year look extremely encouraging. He has a 19.3% barrel rate, which is up from 12.8% last year, and a 54.5% hard-hit rate, up from 41.2% last year. His 14.6% HR/FB rate this year is what's currently holding him back. He had a 30.6% HR/FB rate as a rookie in 2019 and a 24.6% HR/FB rate last year. Expect to see him start catching up with the league's current home run leaders soon.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
