Preston Williams 2021 Outlook: Draft Capital Always Wins
4 years agoIt's extremely rare for a UDFA to get the opportunities out of the gate that Preston Williams was given. He was basically a starter as a rookie, but once he looked like he was getting going, he tore his ACL. That should've been the end for Williams, but he persevered, came back in 2020, and was once again looking like a value. Unfortunately, for the second consecutive season, Williams made it through just eight games before sustaining a season ending injury. Williams is not getting a third chance. DeVante Parker is entrenched as the Dolphins' WR1. They signed Will Fuller to be their WR2 and spent a top 10 pick on Jaylen Waddle. If Williams is healthy, he will still be active as the fourth or fifth receiver, but the days of him being a late round dart throw are over. The only silver lining with Williams is that, in the event of injuries propelling Williams into a starting role, we have proof of concept. We know Williams is a receiver worth rostering. Keep Williams' name in the back of your mind as someone worth picking up in the event of two injuries in front of him, but he does not belong on your board outside of the deepest of leagues.
