Corbin Burnes Sets MLB Record Thursday
4 years agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Corbin Burnes set the record for strikeouts without a walk to begin the season on Thursday in a 2-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Burnes extended the mark to 58 strikeouts before issuing his first walk this year in the fifth inning. The 26-year-old also set a record for strikeouts without a walk at any point in a season. Overall, Burnes allowed just one run in his five innings while striking out nine and walking one in the loss to St. Louis. He was making his first start after testing positive for COVID-19, and he now sits at 2-3 on the year with a 1.57 ERA. Burnes also has a nice 0.64 WHIP in 34 1/3 innings this year in a great start to the 2021 season. He'll be a no-brainer start in his next outing against the Kansas City Royals.
