Justin Verlander Throwing From 90 Feet
4 years agoHouston Astros starting pitcher Justin Verlander (elbow) is throwing from 90 feet and has been feeling great, but he said that it's much too early to have a timetable for a return after recovering from Tommy John surgery. The two-time Cy Young winner made just one start last year before being placed on the injured list with a strained right forearm. It was announced on in September that he needed Tommy John surgery, and he went under the knife on Oct. 1. The 38-year-old is making $33 million in 2021 and will be a free agent after the season, but he hasn't had talks with the Astros about his future. Since coming over to Houston in a trade in 2017, Verlander is 43-15 with a 2.45 ERA and 640 strikeouts in 74 starts. He went 21-6 with a 2.58 ERA while striking out a career-high 300 hitters in 2019, but he'll be 39 when he returns to the mound next season, which will give fantasy managers plenty of pause when deciding if he can still be an ace.
