Better than 50/50 Chance That Julio Jones Is Traded
4 years agoNBC Sports' Peter King left with the impression that there is more than a 50/50 chance that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones will be traded this offseason after speaking with general manager Terry Fontenot and head coach Arthur Smith after the first round of last week's NFL draft. "The reason is, obviously the Falcons are basically in cap jail right now, and they could clear an awful lot of space by trading Julio Jones June 2 or after," King said. Jones has 12,896 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns in his 10-year career, but the 32-year-old played in only nine games in 2020 and averaged 85.7 yards per game, his lowest mark since 2012. With the emergence of wideouts Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage and the selection of tight end Kyle Pitts at No. 4 overall, it might be the best time for the Falcons to move on from Jones.
