Charlie Morton Roughed Up By Blue Jays
4 years agoAtlanta Braves pitcher Charlie Morton allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings of work in a 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday. The veteran right-hander walked two batters and allowed five hits — including George Springer's first home run of the season. On the plus side, Morton struck out six batters and induced seven ground-ball outs. He has an unsightly 5.08 ERA through five games but he's been the victim of some bad luck as outlined by his 3.36 xERA. His underlying numbers are solid with a 27.5% strikeout rate and 52% ground-ball rate. Opponents are also hitting just .228 against him. Now might be a great time to scoop up Morton via trade if your fantasy opponents are underestimating the veteran's value.
