Odubel Herrera Hitless In Return To Majors
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 0-for-3 on Monday against the St. Louis Cardinals in his first major league game since May 26, 2019, following a suspension for domestic violence. He was suspended for 85 games and didn't play last year after being designated for assignment. The 29-year-old publicly apologized for his actions several years ago in spring training, and the Phillies felt this was the right time to bring him back up. He'll make $10 million this year in the final season of a $30.5 million, five-year deal that includes two team options. Herrera hit seventh and played center field on Monday, and he could stick as the team's regular center fielder if he can hit. He was an All-Star in his second season in 2016, and he had a career-high 22 home runs in 2018, but for now he's strictly a depth option in NL-only leagues.
