BALLER MOVE: Add in 12+ Team Leagues
ROSTERED IN: 27% of leagues
ANALYSIS: There's been plenty of stretches, even seasons, that have made us collectively hold our breathe in anticipation of Jon Gray's true arrival, and his start to the 2021 season could announce his presence at the gates. So far through 28.1 IP over five starts, Gray has netted a 2.54 ERA, 1.094 WHIP, three wins, and a 3.94 FIP. While his walk rate is up by 5% from last year, his strikeout rate remains steady at 23.5%, and his home run rate is down to 2.6% by limiting the potential for damage in Coors Field.

Gray has brought his average exit velocity down by 4.1% to 86.2%, and his 34.7% hard hit rate is the lowest of his MLB career. Additionally, the 18.5% reduction in line drive rate and 14% increase in grounders has helped keep batted balls out of the thin atmosphere, with opposing batters ultimately slugging just .313 on the season. In limiting the volume of batted balls with damage potential behind them, Jon Gray is working past the most difficult obstacle that he's had to deal with as a pro, and with the strikeout quantity still flowing, he's an excellent option in medium-sized leagues.
