Josh Staumont Earns First Save On Saturday
4 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Josh Staumont closed out Saturday's 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers to earn his first save of the year. He pitched a flawless ninth inning, allowing no hits or walks while striking out two. Staumont has now closed out two straight wins for the Royals, the previous one coming in Friday's 6-2 win (a non-save situation). All the while, Greg Holland, the team's presumed primary closer, has remained healthy and on the bench. Six different Royals now have saves, but Staumont has the best numbers of the bunch by a considerable margin. He has a 0.82 ERA and 0.64 WHIP over 11 innings this year. The saves might come and go for Staumont and several other Royals relievers, but Staumont should - at the very least - give fantasy managers a solid boost in ratios.
