Cesar Valdez Earns Multi-Inning Save Tuesday
4 years agoBaltimore Orioles closer Cesar Valdez notched his fourth save of the season in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Marlins. Valdez entered the game up by two in the eighth inning with two outs and a runner on first. He struck out Jesus Aguilar to end the inning and stayed on to pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning with two more strikeouts. The 36-year-old now owns a stellar 0.96 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 26.3% strikeout rate. While his career numbers aren't great, he's 36, and he plays for the O's, the fact of the matter is he is currently performing like a worthy fantasy closer. Fantasy managers seem to be buying in, as Valdez is currently rostered in 59% of leagues.
