Through 15 games in 2021, Candelario is slashing .293/.369/.414 with one home run, four doubles, seven walks, seven RBI and eight runs.

Candelario broke out in 2020 by making more consistent hard contact. He had a 10.3% barrel rate and a 47.1% hard-hit rate, which were both significant increases from his 2019 season, when he had a 5.9% barrel rate and and a 33.8% hard-hit rate. This year so far, those rates are both lower than last year, but he's made strides elsewhere, particularly with his launch angle. He has an average launch angle of 16.6 degrees, up from 13.3 degrees last year. He's also striking out at a lower clip this year (20%) than he was last year (23.8%).
Candelario hit .297 in 2020 and he has a good chance to maintain a similar average throughout 2021. He hit 19 home runs over 144 games in 2018, so 20 home runs is clearly very much on the table for him. He has a weak supporting cast in Detroit, which hurts his potential for counting stats, but he's still someone worth a roster spot in most 12-team leagues. In more shallow leagues, he can be left on waivers for now.
