Jake Diekman Fans Two In Win Versus Dodgers
4 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman allowed one hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning against the Dodgers on Wednesday. It was a nice bounce-back effort from Diekman who allowed three runs - two earned - in his first outing of 2021. The 34-year-old lefty is one of the top options for saves in the A's bullpen with Trevor Rosenthal (shoulder) on the injured list. Manager Bob Melvin hasn't announced a closer and the A's have not had a save chance yet this season. Diekman should lead a committee featuring J.B. Wendelken, Yusmeiro Petit, and Sergio Romo. Diekman pitched 21 1/3 innings last season with a microscopic 0.42 ERA and a 36.1 percent strikeout rate. He should help fantasy managers in strikeouts and ratios while picking up a healthy amount of saves. Diekman should be rostered in leagues that value saves or holds.
