Whit Merrifield Dominates Texas Pitching
4 years agoKansas City Royals second baseman Whit Merrifield had a phenomenal opening series against the Texas Rangers. Over 14 plate appearances, he slashed .462/.467/1.000 with two home runs, a double, six RBI and four runs. Merrifield clearly didn't need to shake off any rust to kick off the 2021 season. He's leading off for what appears to be a much-improved Royals offense. The Royals have gotten great production from their three-hitter Carlos Santana and the bottom of their lineup has been bolstered by strong play from Michael A. Taylor. Merrifield had an average exit velocity of 94.3 mph this past weekend, about seven mph above last year's clip (86.1). Expect Merrifield to rank amongst the top second basemen in fantasy this year.
