Matthew Boyd Fires 5 2/3 Scoreless Innings On Opening Day
4 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Matthew Boyd delivered a strong Opening Day start, helping the Tigers top the Cleveland Indians 3-2. Boyd pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, four walks and no runs while striking out two. He earned the win while Indians ace Shane Bieber was tagged with a loss. Boyd is coming off a dreadful 2020 season where he went 3-7 with a 6.71 ERA and 1.48 WHIP, so it was encouraging to see him start the 2021 season off strong. His next outing will be a tough matchup at home against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.
