Mark Melancon Collects Easy Save
4 years agoSan Diego Padres reliever Mark Melancon breezed through the ninth inning to collect his first save Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. With questions surrounding the Friars late-game hierarchy, Melancon required just seven pitches to nail down the 8-7 victory. If Opening Day was any indication, reliever Emilio Pagan handled the seventh frame before being spelled by Drew Pomeranz in the eighth. The Padres didn't take the lead until the bottom seventh, so it's possible the order would shuffle if the situation was different. Regardless, Melancon appears the early frontrunner to head the closing committee. He should be scooped by all managers scrounging for saves.
