4 years agoThe Carolina Panthers signed free-agent kicker Matt Ammendola to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. Ammendola will replace Lirim Hajrullahu, who was waived last week. Ammendola, a former Oklahoma State product, will be brought in to compete with Joey Slye this summer. He connected on 60 of his 78 field-goal attempts (76.9 percent) in college and 179 of his 183 extra points (97.8 percent). Ammendola went undrafted last year and has since been working with former NFL kicker Nick Novak. It remains to be seen if Ammendola can win the starting job for the Panthers, but this signing is less about him and speaks more to Slye's lack of a firm grasp on the team's starting gig heading into the 2021 season.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
