Franchy Cordero Will See First Spring Action On Saturday
4 years agoBoston Red Sox outfielder Franchy Cordero will make his spring debut as a designated hitter on Saturday. Cordero tested positive for COVID-19 at the start of spring and wasn't cleared to join the team until last week. He's played in simulated games this week and could be ready to play in the field soon. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Cordero has not yet been ruled out for Opening Day. The fact that he'll be seeing game action this weekend probably makes him likely to be on the Opening Day roster. Cordero was acquired by the Red Sox in the Andrew Benintendi trade this offseason. He figures to be one of the team's starting outfielders. Last year in a reserve role with the Kansas City Royals, he slashed .211/.286/.447 with two home runs, seven RBI and seven runs over 16 games.
