Julio Teheran Making Strong Bid For Roster Spot
4 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Julio Teheran had a fantastic outing against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. He pitched four innings and allowed one hit, no walks and no runs while striking out seven. Teheran now has a 2.00 ERA and 0.67 WHIP with 12 strikeouts over nine innings this spring. Teheran had a dreadful 2020 campaign with the Los Angeles Angels, going 0-4 with a 10.05 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 10 games. He signed a minor-league deal with the Tigers this offseason, but it's going to be hard for the Tigers to keep him off the team's opening day roster given his exceptional spring. The Tigers have a lot of starting pitchers competing for rotation spots. Teheran could end up as the team's fifth or sixth starter or he could have a long relief role.
