Anthony Rizzo Optimistic About Extension
4 years agoChicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo is optimistic about the chances that he'll reach a long-term contract extension with the team. Without a new deal, he will be eligible for free agency next offseason. Rizzo is now 31 years old and is entering his 11th season in the major leagues, but he'd like to chase another World Series title in Chicago. "We've had really good conversations top to bottom," Rizzo said. However, the first baseman doesn't want extension talks to linger past Opening Day. Contract aside, Rizzo's fantasy stock has fallen after he hit just .222 last season. But the 31-year-old left-handed slugger had an unusually low .218 BABIP despite his walk and strikeout rates staying mostly the same. Rizzo is no longer at his peak, but he can be a useful starting fantasy first baseman at a discount in 2021.
