Royals Value Patient Approach Of Carlos Santana
4 years agoThe Kansas City Royals brought in first baseman Carlos Santana this offseason to help give them a strong, veteran bat in their lineup. Royals manager Mike Matheny has spoken glowingly about Santana's plate presence, particularly his patience. Matheny says he wants his team to be known for their abilities to grind out at-bats and that Santana has made a "career of personifying that." Santana had a down year in 2020 with the Cleveland Indians. He slashed .199/.349/.350 with eight home runs, 30 RBI and 34 runs over 60 games. However, he led the American League with 47 walks and only struck out 43 times. He should hit right in the heart of the Royals lineup this year and give all the hitters around him some solid support.
