Wander Franco Tags First Spring Home Run
4 years agoTampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco, the consensus No. 1 prospect in baseball entering the 2021 season, hit a towering home run in Grapefruit League play on Wednesday just two days after turning 20 years old. The switch-hitting prospect had gone hitless in his first five spring at-bats before going deep off Pirates right-hander Miguel Yajure from the left side of the plate. Franco hasn't played a game above the High-A level, but expectations are sky-high for him in 2021 and beyond. He's extremely advanced at the plate with a smooth, compact swing that generates plenty of pop. Franco is already an elite asset in dynasty/keeper leagues, but his single-year stock is a bit more murky, as the Rays could decide that he needs a bit more minor league seasoning before turning him loose on the majors.
