Shogo Akiyama Still Not At Camp
4 years agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama has been away from camp since Friday due to personal reasons, and a date for his return has not been announced. "I don't expect it to be much longer, though," Reds manager David Bell said. "I would expect to have him back in camp here in the next few coming days." Akiyama must undergo COVID-19 intake testing upon his return and have negative results before he can participate with the team. The 32-year-old Japanese outfielder hit .245/.357/.297 with no home runs, nine RBI and seven stolen bases in his first 54 major league games during the shortened 2020 season with the Reds. He should have a place on the active roster, but he's competing for playing time in a crowded Reds outfield and can be ignored in most mixed leagues.
