Hunter Greene Brings Elite Heat In Spring Debut
4 years agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher Hunter Greene displayed some impressive velocity in his long-awaited spring training start against the Angels on Tuesday. The first three pitches to leadoff hitter David Fletcher registered at 101, 102 and 103 mph, respectively. The 21-year-old right-hander is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the team's No. 2 prospect. He allowed three earned runs, three hits (one homer), one walk and a strikeout before completing a full inning in his debut. The No. 2 overall pick in 2017, Greene last pitched in a game in July of 2018 for Single-A Dayton and needed Tommy John surgery in April of 2019. It was good to see the Greene back on the mound and throwing elite heat, but he has a ways to go in terms of development before the Reds will be comfortable with him in major league games that count.
