Chris Godwin Says He'd Play On Franchise Tag
4 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent wide receiver Chris Godwin would love to return to the Buccaneers and said he'd be willing to play on the franchise tag in 2021. The four-year pro wouldn't be ecstatic about that outcome, but he'd be willing to accept the tag should the team go in that direction. Godwin was a key contributor during Tampa's Super Bowl run last season after being a third-round pick in 2017. Wide receivers are projected to earn $16.43 million on a 2021 franchise tag ($14.26 million on the transition tag), according to Over the Cap. The 25-year-old would prefer a little more long-term security, but he's also willing to sacrifice a few dollars to play for a contender. After catching 81 passes for 1,072 yards and eight touchdowns in 2020, Godwin will remain a highly coveted fantasy wideout if he sticks in Tampa with quarterback Tom Brady.
