Jake Cronenworth To See Some Work In Outfield
4 years agoSan Diego Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth will get some looks in the outfield in spring training over the next month. Cronenworth broke out for the Friars last year by hitting .285/.354/.477 to finish second in National League Rookie of the Year voting. He figures to share time at the keystone with Ha-Seong Kim, who was added in free agency over the winter. Cronenworth played all four infield spots in 2020, and the Padres think he's more than capable of learning a corner outfield spot. The 27-year-old had a fine first season in San Diego, but he'll have to prove himself again and will have plenty of competition from Kim, who can also play shortstop if needed. Because of playing-time concerns on San Diego's loaded roster, Cronenworth is more of a late-round flier for middle infield depth in mixed leagues.
