Taylor Rogers Not Demoted Yet Despite Additions To Bullpen
4 years agoMinnesota Twins reliever Taylor Rogers hasn't been demoted from his ninth-inning role yet despite the additions of two late-inning arms this offseason. Rogers had the worst ERA of his six-year career in the shortened 2020 season, surrendering 11.7 hits per nine innings, though the Twins believe it was an outlier year for the 30-year-old. "We didn't think Taylor had a bad season. That's baseball, man," said pitching coach Wes Johnson. "He got dinked and dunked a couple of times." The numbers would seem to support that sentiment, as hitters had an unsustainable .400 BABIP against him when the league average was .298. He also had a near-identical FIP and strikeout rate compared to his excellent 2019 season. Rogers isn't as safe an option with Alex Colome and Hansel Robles in the picture, though he's still in line to rack up some saves for what should be another good Twins team.
