Franmil Reyes 2021 Player Outlook: They Call Him Franimal For a Reason
4 years agoFranmil Reyes is listed at 6' 5" and 265 pounds, which seems generous. Regardless, he's a mountain of a man and has been nicknamed Franimal for a reason, as he is one of the most prodigious power bats in the game. In 2019, Reyes clubbed 37 home runs. Last season, the exit velocity was in the 91st percentile, barrel rate was in the 84% percentile, and hard hit rate was in the 79th percentile. He will likely bat cleanup for an Indians team that is projected to score the 12th-most runs in baseball. Now, not all is rosy when it comes to Reyes. The strikeout rate approaches 30% and the batting average will likely be in the .250 range. In addition, he is only DH/UTIL eligible. Now, out of the top 30 players projected to hit the most home runs this season, only two can be found past round 12, Reyes and Miguel Sano. The stats are almost identical and Sano has first base eligibility, but his batting average will likely be 20 points lower. If you need power in the middle stages of the draft without completing tanking your batting average, Reyes could be your savior.
