Carlos Correa Open To Long-Term Extension
4 years agoHouston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa said he's open to a long-term contract extension if it's completed before Opening Day. Correa avoided salary arbitration by signing a one-year, $11.7 million deal, but he can become a free agent after the 2021 season. He's spent his whole career with Houston after he was the first overall pick in the 2012 draft. Correa would like to stay in Houston, but he said the team has yet to approach him about a new contract. He'll be just 27 years old when he's eligible for free agency if he doesn't sign an extension. The 2015 American League Rookie of the Year is a .276 career hitter with 107 home runs and 397 RBI in six big-league seasons. Correa still has upside at his age, but he's an injury risk at a premier position and hasn't played in more than 109 games since 2016. He no longer steals many bases, either, making him a fringe top-15 fantasy shortstop.
