Washington Agrees To Extension With Taylor Heinicke
4 years agoThe Washington Football Team agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $8.75 million for quarterback Taylor Heinicke on Wednesday, according to sources. There are also incentives in the deal based on how many games Heinicke starts. The move gives them some security at the position, but it doesn't mean that Washington won't be in on the quarterback market this offseason with Alex Smith's future still up in the air. The 27-year-old's performance in the wild-card loss to the Buccaneers in the playoffs -- he threw for 328 yards in an impressive performance against the eventual Super Bowl champions -- is what earned him this extension. Heinicke has played in just eight games (one start) in three NFL seasons, though, so he's likely to be the backup in Washington in 2021.
